Lateralus
Someone at work advised me to review a Tool album, so I'll do my favorite: Lateralus.
In a similar style to my previous reviews, I will blurt out the first thing that comes into my mind when I hear each song. This is partly because people tell me they like this format, and partly because I'm lazy.
- 1. The Grudge: One of my faves, pumps me up. Space and being angsty and such
- 2. Eon Blue Apocalypse: Reminds me of Lividity from the album Stoner Witch by the Melvins.
- 3. The Patient: Sets the mood for the rest of the album. Detective vibes "is this a test? It has to be, otherwise I can't go on". So freaking dope 4 minutes in, but you have to let it build.
- 4. Mantra: Distorted digital wailing, feeling like you're crossing that one Greek river to go see Hades (the Styx I think). I wanna have this on repeat for like 2 hours
- 5. Schism: I KNOW THE PIECES FIT
- 6. Parabol: This song and parabola are my two favorites on this album, such a crazy transition, the music video slaps too
- 7. Parabola: Absolutely wild, the most kick-butt track on the record, but only if you listen to the previous song right before it
- 8. Ticks and Leeches: Not my favorite track, a little lame
- 9. Lateralus: This one's based on the Fibonacci sequence.
- 10. Disposition: Parabola/Parabola reprise. Cool as frick.
- 11. Reflection: Infiltrating an evil ominous zombie nightclub in the jungle.
- 12. Triad: Like some kind of final boss battle.
- 13. Faaip de Oiad: Some paranoid feller talm' bout aliens and such.
I give this little ditty 7.5 Ice-Cream cones out of 10.
